Member Spotlight: Pullman Subway

This September, the Pullman Chamber is shining its member spotlight on Pullman’s Subway restaurants as they begin a new chapter under the ownership of a former manager.
Sara and Nate Tiegs purchased Pullman’s Subway restaurants and the Colfax location from longtime owners Cameron and Joreen Brinkman, officially assuming ownership on Jan. 28 of this year. The pair have a long history with Subway. Prior to taking ownership, Sara was the manager of the downtown Pullman location, a position she held since 2006.
Sara’s Subway expertise however, extends beyond just managing the restaurant. Since 2009, Sara has consistently ranked among Subway’s top 10 fastest sandwich makers. In 2019, she earned the title of “World’s Fastest Sandwich Artist” at the Subway International Sandwich-Making Competition in Toronto, a title she still holds.

Today, the Tiegs are combining their years of experience with the global Subway brand and their deep knowledge of the Pullman community, to bring a small-town operational approach to what is one of the most recognizable restaurant brands in the world. Last month, noticing a significant gap in late-night Pullman dining options, the Tiegs launched “Late Night at Subway,” which keeps their downtown Pullman location open until 3 a.m. “We noticed that most of the late-night options in Pullman were fast food,” Sara said. “This adds another fast option that is fresh, clean and healthy,” she added.
The Tiegs are also expanding convenience for customers. At their Walmart location, the pair have established a partnership with Walmart Delivery where customers ordering groceries can add a freshly made Subway sandwich to their order.
Beyond daily operations, the Tiegs are committed to being active members of the communities they serve. Subway has joined both the Pullman and Colfax Chambers of Commerce, and catering continues to be a major focus of the business. Equipped with a catering kitchen and the tools to serve large groups efficiently, Subway regularly supports community events, meetings and other important gatherings. “I like to be involved and be part of the community we serve,” said Sara.
As the Tiegs continue this new chapter for Subway they remain committed to keeping their hometown roots at the forefront of their business operations. While Subway may be an international brand, Sara says that Pullman’s locations will continue to be shaped by the community they serve. “Yes, Subway is corporate, but we are locally owned and a part of this community,” she said.
